WHO ARE WE? Following the first London Marathon five friends joined together as a running group. They ran together during 1980-1981 and then formally established Ramsey Road Runners as a club in 1982. David Wallwork, the original chairman, and Adrian Graham, the current chairman, were founder members of the club which has now grown to around 90 members. The club meets on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 7:30 pm from Ramsey Leisure Centre, Abbey Road, Ramsey, Cambridgeshire, PE26 1DP (Map) The club caters for senior men, ladies, junior boys and girls and is aimed at runners of all abilities, from the "social jogger" to the more competitive runner. Senior runners compete in races from 5k up to marathons all over the country and the juniors compete in local fun runs. The club organise the Abbey 10k & 3k fun run, held in July each year at the Abbey College. The seniors & juniors also compete against other local running clubs in the winter Frostbite Friendly League, held between October and March, making it an ideal family activity. We also enter a team in the 193 Mile Round Norfolk Relay race, a continuous relay race held over a weekend in September. We also enter the Hereward relay race held in November, covering nearly 40 miles in four stages from Peterborough to Ely cathedral. Ramsey Running Events RRR organises 2 main running events during the year: The Abbey 10K and Fun Run in summer and a Frostbite League Race in winter. Both events are classed as multi-terrain and any feedback to help improve and promote them are most welcome. Click on the Abbey link for details and pictures of the last event. Our next organised running event will be the Ramsey Frostbite dated 4 Jan 09.
